The Golf Club of Amelia Island at Summer Beach, designed by PGA Tour veterans Mark McCumber and Gene Littler, opened in 1987. Its flawless design has been recognized worldwide. In 1988 it was nominated for best new course of the year. The meticulously maintained facility is the only PGA Tournament course on Amelia Island. It was the host site for the 1988 Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf, which was televised by ABC. The Club winds through oaks and tall pines on the front nine, with water and marshes dominating the back nine. It has plenty of marsh to carry, but the greens are large, making it a very user-friendly resort course.
