11/19/2011 - Florida's two best courses. Together! and very reasonably priced. A bit out of the way unless your destination in Florida is World Woods! For serious golfers only...try the tips...the challenge of a lifetime. Posted by jp (Hammonds Plains, NS CANADA) 11/11/2011 - Liked Rolling Oaks a lot. Fair test of golf in great shape. The people were very nice. Posted by Jim (Berwyn, PA) 3/11/2011 - A bit of a drive from Orlando, but worth every minute of it. Of the 7 courses we played this one had the most memorable holes. Grass is not as plush as Orange County National but the scenery and design is fantastic. Plenty of shade(not that we needed it in March) but would be a great course on a hot day. The food was fantastic (we had the hamburger). We played our round in 3 hours 15 minutes ate lunch and played the other course (Pine Barrens) which was just as nice just not as many water views. Posted by Sandy 4/5/2010 - A very nice course that was in great shape. I would love to play it again. The next time down I will have to play its sister course just to compare. I highly recommend this course to anyone. Posted by Mike (Ridley Park, PA) 3/19/2010 - Nice courses. Sandy roughs, due to the season. Not much greenery this time of year. Excellent practice facility, including three practice holes were good for warming up! Distances poorly marked. Score not helpful either. Posted by Gary (Morton Grove, IL) 3/18/2010 - Great course ,in great shape for the season. Tees, fairways and greens were overseeded and in great shape. Posted by Charlie (Ballston Lake, NY) 12/6/2009 - I played these courses the first year they were opened and this was my fourth time back. This is an unbelievable facility and the golf courses deserve their great reputation. Posted by Bill (Chicago, IL) 10/29/2009 - Superb golfing day with excellent weather and a course that was immaculate from tee to green. Amazing value for money. Posted by Ian (Lancs, United Kingdom) 10/8/2009 - Greens were in fantastic shape. Fast, but rolled true. Bunkers were a mess. Some looked like they hadn't been raked for weeks. With cart rakes, visiting golfers would forget to bring it with them and would be too lazy to go back and get it. Other than that the course was great. Posted by Fred (Lady Lake, FL) 10/5/2009 - Great course. Greens were nice and the fairways were good. Still think Pine Barrons is the better track. Still got to love the putting green and the challenges it presents before your round. They should tell you about the second putting green when you check in. Posted by David (Fayetteville, GA) 4/16/2009 - Good layout. Much different than Pine Barrens. Greens were a bit slower but roll nicely. A fun course to play. Excellent conditionning. perfect combo with Pine Barrens. Posted by Donald (St-redempteur, QC CANADA) 4/3/2009 - Wow, this place just gets better. In the two years since we last played this course a lot of work has been done. We were surprised to see that some of the trees had been removed, but were told that this was to allow more air in the fairways and boy were they good. Everything was brilliant; the fairways, the greens, and the staff. We would have played here every day of our week long stay if we could. Posted by Chris (East Yorkshire, UK) 3/21/2009 - No complaints about the course. But the staff and clubhouse was more like an average daily fee course than a top ranked track. Staff did very little to make us comfortable or feel at home. More a pay your money and get going experience. Again, the course was fine but the facility would make me think twice about making the trip to World Woods. Posted by Al (Shelby, OH) 2/26/2009 - This is a great pair of courses that we play every year. It is worth the drive from downtown and worth the extra fee. Their practice facility is the best that we've found. The absence of houses makes it extra special. The staff is always friendy and helpful, what a combo! Posted by Wayne. 2/25/2009 - Very nice golf course. Posted by Jacob (Ellwood, PA) 1/2/2009 - Very nice course in good condition. Posted by Margaret (Beds Shefford, United Kingdom). 11/24/2008 - This is the third time I have played these courses since they opened and they continue to be two of my favorite courses. Posted by Bill Edmundson (Chicago, IL). 8/29/2008 - Awsome golf course. Well organized with friendly staff. Pity the Pine Barrens course had been recently aeriated so we couldn''t play it this year. Posted by William (Venice, FL). 5/20/2008 - This course is a must play. It is a challenging and well conditioned course. Great layout. Highly recommended. Posted by Barry (Punta Gorda, FL). 5/2/2008 - The nicest course we played while we were in Tampa. Long drive but all highway. Open fairways and a beautiful layout. Played 9 holes on the sister course (Pine Barrens) while we were there. Nice place to schedule 36 holes. Posted by Joe (Whitby, Canada). 2/29/2008 - Course was in better condition at this time last year...but still worth the drive out to play. Posted by Mike (Bettendorf, IA) 2/2/2008 - Exceptional course! Simply beautiful layout. Very challenging. It would have been nice if they allowed us to play around on Pine Barrens. 12/12/2007 - Great. 4 hour golf. Posted by Thomas (Chicago, IL). 11/16/07 -4.5 star layout Worth the drive (52 miles). Posted by Jeffrey (Forest Park, IL). This facility has two Tom Fazio eighteen hole championship courses and a nine hole executive course. Pine Barrens is the signature course for the club. It is a tight, intimidating layout named for its large number of pine trees and barren waste areas. The design demands many long carry shots over waste areas, as well as delicate placement shots to small landing areas. Generally, trees come into play on either the left or right side of each fairway, but rarely both. Two small lakes also come into play on this course. "Golf Digest" rated Pine Barrens as the 3rd "Best Public Course" in the state, and the 8th "Best in State" course from 1995 through 1998. "GOLF Magazine" chose it 11th among the "Top 100 Courses You Can Play in the U.S." for 1998, 38th among the "Top 100 Courses in the U.S." for 1997 and 1999, and 39th in the same category for 1995. "GOLFWEEK" awarded it 13th in the category of "America's 100 Best Modern Courses" for 1997, 11th for 1998 and 9th for 1999. The Rolling Oaks Course is a traditional design with rolling fairways lined with live oaks, dogwood, and magnolia trees. The large greens feature multiple tiers and cavernous protective bunkers. Azaleas are planted along the manicured fairways and greens. Water hazards (two lakes) come into play on three holes. "Golf Digest" rated the Rolling Oaks course as the 6th "Best Public Course" in the state for 1996, and they also ranked it 73rd among the "Top 75 Upscale Courses" for the same year. The same publication rated it the 19th "Best in State" course for 1995-96, and 26th best for 1997-98. "GOLF Magazine" has selected the Rolling Oaks Course 33rd among the "Top 100 Courses You Can Play in the U.S." for 1998. "GOLFWEEK" awarded it 67th among "America's 100 Best Modern Courses" for 1997, 76th for 1998 and 63rd for 1999. Locals consider the nine hole Irons Course as a great place for beginning and junior golfers, plus it's also an excellent facility for practicing your short game. This club additionally boasts of having one of the finest practice facilities in the country. World Woods offers three challenging practice holes, including a par 3, 4, and 5. A circular driving range covers over twenty-two acres of land and features eight separate teeing areas, including target greens, bunkers, and trees. The circular shape offers an opportunity to practice under various wind and sun conditions. Sand bunkers and chipping greens are also a part of the practice area. The putting course consists of two acres of undulating greens that guarantees a challenge to everyone. |
