4/10/2009 - In poor shape on the front nine, not well cared for, some staff with attitude. Did not enjoy this course. Does not measure as a ''high end'' course. Posted by Anthony (Somersworth, NH) This spectacular resort, built alongside the Gulf of Mexico, has some of the oldest trees in the area scattered throughout its layout. The design features generous, tree-lined fairways and the undulating, medium-sized greens. There are lakes that come into play on six holes, including #3, a 173-yard, par 3, which will test of your shotmaking skills with a shot over water. The Valley of Sin on hole #12 will remind you of the green on #18 on the Old Course at St. Andrews. The signature hole is #18, a 398-yard, par 4, requiring your approach shot over water to a well-bunkered green. Hedy Lamarr played golf here, as well as Patty Berg in her prime. An apocryphal story has it that a young Jack Nicklaus broke 40 for nine holes for the first time on this course. Mark Mahannah redesigned the original holes in 1953, followed by Ron Garl in 1979. |
